LAST DESCENT reunites the full ensemble of THE DEEP VEIN for one final expedition, past every previously recorded boundary of the network's known geography, to the Repository — the network's oldest, deepest chamber, and the place every anomaly since OREBODY was always pointing toward. What they find there answers the series' oldest questions and asks one final, harder one: not whether they can save what they've spent seven books learning to understand, but what they owe it, now that they finally do.
The concluding volume of THE DEEP VEIN — a seven-book hard science fiction series about discovery, responsibility, and the difference between deciding fast and deciding well.
Andi is a senior geological engineer with more than seventeen years of experience across Indonesia’s oil and gas, mining, and infrastructure sectors. He holds a degree in Geological Engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung and has worked as a geologist, petrophysicist, and technical decision-support professional on projects spanning the South Sumatra, North Sumatra, NW Java, NE Java, and Salawati (Papua) basins, an international reserves evaluation in Madagascar, geotechnical quality control on the Batang Toru Hydroelectric Power Plant in North Sumatra, and nickel exploration in Halmahera.
His work centers on subsurface evaluation, resource and reserves assessment, and — perhaps most relevant to this book — the discipline of contributing sound technical judgment to high-stakes decisions made under real uncertainty and real deadlines, alongside multidisciplinary teams who don’t always agree.
He has been a reader of hard science fiction for most of his life, drawn especially to stories that treat technical and ethical uncertainty as the actual substance of drama, rather than an obstacle for a single brilliant character to clear alone. THE DEEP VEIN series — and LAST DESCENT, its seventh and final installment — is his attempt to build that kind of story himself, using the instincts, the vocabulary, and the hard-won respect for incomplete data that seventeen years of subsurface work gave him.
