About this ebook

Geotechnical engineer Reza Sarwono expects an ordinary anomaly when a routine core sample beneath the Apex Spire construction site in Meridian City comes back wrong. What she finds instead — a resonance no rock should produce, a dating result that shouldn't be possible, a geometry too precise to be natural — will end her career as she knows it and begin something far larger.

As government inspectors circle and her own consortium moves to bury the discovery along with the borehole, Reza has to decide how far she's willing to go to protect evidence the world isn't ready to believe: a structure two thousand years old, built by no civilization anyone has ever named, doing something engineers have no word for.

FOUNDATION is the first book in THE HIDDEN LAYER, a hard science fiction series about what happens when the ground beneath humanity's cities turns out to be listening back.

As the opening book of THE HIDDEN LAYER, FOUNDATION succeeds at making me curious about the larger story. It establishes a fascinating central mystery without explaining everything too quickly. The discovery beneath Meridian City feels like the beginning of something much bigger, and I'm definitely curious about what comes next.

A very original hard science fiction mystery. I really enjoyed the combination of construction engineering, geology, ancient technology, and conspiracy. The story starts with what looks like an unusual core sample and gradually turns into something far more disturbing. A strong beginning to the series.
