RoamSpool: Location History

RoamSpool is a personal location diary. Switch recording on and it saves your phone's location, then turns the points into stops and journeys. When there is no data, the day shows a gap — never a guessed route.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
• See each day in order: stops with times, movement between them, and gaps with their cause when it is known (paused, stopped) or "unknown" when it is not.
• A route sketch drawn from your own points.
• Name stops, fix their times, split, merge, remove stops, or add a stop at one of your saved places. Undo the last edit. Your edits are kept when the day is recalculated.
• Search named places and notes. Open any day from a calendar.
• Attach photos to a stop with Android's photo picker. RoamSpool sees only the photos you pick.
• Import GPX files, RoamSpool exports, Google Takeout location history (Records.json, Semantic Location History) and the Timeline export from a phone. You see a preview first; nothing is added until you confirm, and importing the same file twice adds nothing.
• Export GPX, CSV or a complete RoamSpool file. Optionally leave private places out of exported files.
• Make an encrypted backup file with a password you choose. RoamSpool opens the file again after writing and only then calls it verified. Check a backup or restore it on a new phone.
• Recording health: last saved location, gaps in the last 24 hours, and the Android settings that can stop recording.
• Light, dark or system theme. Nine languages.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
• No map and no address lookup. Places have the names you give them.
• No internet permission: RoamSpool cannot send your history anywhere. It leaves the phone only as a file you export or back up.
• It does not track other people and is not a family or safety locator.
• It cannot promise to record all day on every phone. Android and some phone makers stop background apps; the app shows the gaps instead of hiding them.
• The interval is a request to Android, not a guarantee. Battery use depends on the phone and settings and has not been measured across phones.
• Uninstalling removes the history. Android cloud backup is off for this app; keep your own backup file.
• Photos are linked, not copied, and are not inside backups.
• Hiding private places in exports reduces what a file shows; it does not hide a routine completely.

PERMISSIONS
• Location (precise or approximate): to record while recording is on, including when the app is closed or not in use. You start it yourself; a notification with Pause and Stop is shown the whole time.
• Notifications: the recording notice with Pause and Stop.
• Run at startup: after a restart, tells you if recording you left on has stopped. It never turns recording on by itself.

RoamSpool does not ask for "Allow all the time" location access. When the phone restarts, recording stops until you open the app; the day shows that gap.
