About this ebook

'A wonderful insight into the beginnings of one of fantasy's most beloved and iconic characters' JOHN GWYNNE
'Geralt is one of the great characters in all of fantasy' JAMES ISLINGTON
'A great place to start your [Witcher] reading adventure' GRIMDARK MAGAZINE
'Old-school fantasy done right' SFF WORLD

Witchers are not born. They are made.

Before he was the White Wolf or the Butcher of Blaviken, Geralt of Rivia was simply a fresh graduate of Kaer Morhen, stepping into a world that neither understands nor welcomes his kind.

And when an act of naïve heroism goes gravely wrong, Geralt is only saved from the noose by Preston Holt, a grizzled witcher with a buried past and an agenda of his own.

Under Holt's guiding hand, Geralt begins to learn what it truly means to walk the Path - to protect a world that fears him, and to survive in it on his own terms. But as the line between right and wrong begins to blur, Geralt must decide to become the monster everyone expects, or something else entirely.

This is the story of how legends are made - and what they cost.

Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher series is a global phenomenon with over thirty million copies sold, translated into over forty languages worldwide. Crossroads of Ravens is a new standalone novel that every Witcher fan has been waiting for, following fantasy's most beloved monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia, on his first steps towards becoming a legend.

very short, I've read his other witcher books many times and his latest book is not a fraction as engaging or deep. Did I mention it's quite short lol. Actually slightly disappointed that I waited all this time for it as it is basically an extended short story as Gerald seems slightly hollow. If he does another I hope it takes longer than a day and a half to read.

I don't know what happened here, but it doesn't feel right. Sure, it's another Witcher book, but it's nowhere near as compelling or engaging as previous books. I struggle to attribute this to the length, as even the short stories found in last wish and sword of destiny were enthralling. Something feels off, I'm unsure if it's the lack of "downtime" scenes, or something to do with an 18 year old Geralt being necessarily limited in the number of characters he can have prior established relationships with outside of the temple and kaer morhen. This also feels like it would have been a great time to get some even earlier history in of Geralt's time in kaer morhen: between the trials of the grasses and his first time on the trail - perhaps that would have eased the transition in styles between "citizen of the world having witty chats with a vampire" and Geralt feeling short of breath in a moderate crowd because being around that many people is new for him.

The book is great. But what's with the thing of the multitude of Italian words? Is it obsession of the translator or the author decided to learn Italian?
