About this ebook

A hired man carries an orphaned boy across the north country of New York State in a wheelbarrow, and raises him with tall tales, hard work and unshakable loyalty — until the war comes. Sixty plates by painters including Winslow Homer and Asher Brown Durand follow the story's own path through the woods, from birch groves and pine forest to autumn trees at the edge of the forest.
