_______

For millennia, humans have handed down lots of nuggets of wisdom: What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others. Happiness comes from within.

But, do these 'truths' actually hold the key to a happier, more fulfilled life? And if so, can we apply these ideas to our twenty-first century lives?

In The Happiness Hypothesis, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt examines ten Great Ideas which have been championed across civilisations. By holding ancient wisdom to the test of modern psychology, Haidt extracts lessons on how we can train our brains to be more optimistic, build better relationships and achieve a sense of balance.

In this uplifting and empowering book, Haidt draws on sources as diverse as Buddha, Benjamin Franklin and Shakespeare to show how we can find happiness and meaning in life.

Fascinating, it links scientific studies and ideas and wisdom. It talks about day to day life and also bigger ideas. And is very reader friendly offering clear explanations. I have read it little by little and found it as enjoyable and engaging as watching a favourite series. I purposely took longer to read this book to allow the ideas to sink in and to see them reflected as I went about daily life. It was fun and informative. Enjoy!

Read this book if you: - Are an atheist totally unconvinced of the value of religion, or a political person confused by the insanity of your opposition. - Feel like the modern world is missing some essential nutrient needed for proper human development. - Are struggling with how to find happiness and direction in life, and feel like at least looking for a map.
