About this ebook

Complete and unabridged, with 56 full-page plates by John Constable, William Powell Frith and Richard Redgrave. A provincial town in the years before the Reform Bill, and two marriages made for the wrong reasons: a clever woman who wants to serve a great mind, and a young doctor who wants to change medicine. Fifty-six plates by painters including Munch and Constable, from gardens and portraits to the light of Kragerø, echo the provincial lives and private rooms of Eliot's study.
