Jane Mitchell is a modern NYC woman transported back to 17th century Scotland by a meddling witch so she can remain part of her nephew's life. (To find out how he and his family ended up in 17th century Scotland, see books 1-4 of the series.) But after living a full life as a working woman in modern day America, Jane finds herself shiftless, bored, stir crazy and hungry for some kind of purpose to fill her days. Since it would not be suitable for the unmarried relative of the laird to seek employment outside the castle openly, Jane secretly finds work helping out at a local inn. One evening, in walks the most infuriating, but also the most attractive man she has ever met--Adwen MacChristy. Adwen has spent his youth traveling and skirt chasing. But as the laird's eldest son, his carefree days are coming to an end. Facing the end of his freedom and his coming responsibilities to his clan with as much enthusiasm as a man facing the gallows, Adwen is determined to make the best of his last trip away from the castle. But when he comes to the inn at his last stop, he meets Jane, the only lass he has ever met who recognizes him for the rebrobate that he is and denies his advances. While Jane and Adwen's love story alone is entertaining and the dialog is as witty as ever, Bethany Clare usually adds in some kind of drama or plot twist to keep the Morna's Legacy books exciting. Love Beyond Compare does not disappoint--there is plenty of action and drama in this installment to keep the reader engaged while the relationship between Adwen and Jane develops. I throoughly enjoyed Book 5 and began reading Love Beyond Dreams almost right away.

Love this series and this one in the series didn't let me down. So comfortable to read. You forget that it's a book and you are immersed in the time and characters. Perhaps not characters but people I recognise.

How is it that each book is as compelling as the last? I want to think I like a certain story more than another but I am equally as drawn in by each book. I appreciate the time-travel aspect because it's well done. Bethany Claire is a master!
