About the author

Born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, William Shakespeare left school young but became the greatest writer in English. By the 1590s, he was London's most successful playwright, writing for both Queen Elizabeth I and common groundlings who paid a penny to stand in the Globe Theatre's yard. Shakespeare’s writings are famous for their poetic language, clever wordplay, and deep insights into human nature.
