About this ebook

A novel you can enjoy as a pure romance love story, or — if you wish — a sociopolitical critique of the developing world, alongside an inspiring spiritual journey of the humble, resilient everyday hero. An emotionally powerful narrative achieving its objectives through its Trojan Horse structure: A high-performance Ferrari of absolute, hidden power... disguised in white denim and sneakers. A meticulously crafted story of multiple layers and highly nuanced subtext.

Logline:

When Filipino American Cris and rural beauty Anna are drawn into a ten-day whirlwind romance, their short summer together unfolds as a love story for the Philippines, and years later, blossoms into a love story for God.

Synopsis

"Orange, the Color of Sunset" explores the volatile, whirlwind relationship between Cris, a derisive, Manhattan-raised son of a powerful Philippine senator, and Anna, an academically accomplished, highly cunning, yet fiercely guarded intellectual powerhouse rooted in her provincial community of Ilocos Norte. Their rapid summer romance escalates into intense ideological battles, reflecting deep class disparity, socio-political third-world corruption, and the resilience of the marginalized masses. Despite their abrupt and painful separation, their time together forces both characters toward significant personal and spiritual transformation, in the hopes that, one day, their love may yet endure, for they are "just on Earth."

.....

A deeply emotional romance novel... that absolutely subverts romance.

.....

Romance, Subverted

The “Meet Cute”

-- There is nothing “cute” about their “meet.” Their first conversation is her absolutely roasting him. A head-on collision between two wildly divergent worlds.

Cinderella, Subverted

-- Our “Cinderella” does not need the prince’s validation. She holds him in “intellectual contempt.”

Rich Boy Saves Poor Girl

-- Rich boy will not save the poor girl. Poor girl tries to save him... and fails. Spectacularly. A further subversion of the romance subversion.

The Simple, Innocent Rural Beauty

-- There is nothing “innocent” nor “simple” about our rural girl. She’s like a high-performance Ferrari who uses her beauty and brains for war.

Billionaire, Subverted

-- Our powerful yet powerless rich kid won’t be saved by his “princess in shining armor”. He has to save himself.

Antagonist. Protagonist

-- The Antagonist is not who you think. The Protagonist is not who you think (definitely not your two main leads).

The Heroic Mantle

-- Ultimately, the novel subverts itself, transferring the mantle of heroism from the lovers to the Dearest Friend, who then bestows it upon the smallest, the most humble, the least of us.

What a beautiful story. Don't be misled that it starts like a summer fling or enemies to friends because it's not! It explodes into a very emotional journey of two young adults who carry so much hidden hurt and pain. Also don't be misled by Anna. You might hate her at first but suddenly you will be crying with her and you want her to win with all your heart. At the core, love is like a tiny seashell. Small, simple but a very powerful force. I love this story so much. It has so much heart!

An emotional roller coaster ride, especially the girl Anna. The story starts so simple and then becomes very intense, it does not feel like they had only 10 days because so many things happened. The little things, the smallest things, as the story says, mean so much. i also love the very last line "just on earth". very beautiful story. Cris and Anna 🧡
