Acerca de este libro electrónico

“Guillermo Cabrera Infante [is] in full form in this collection of essays: irritable and irreverent, generous and catty, indignant and wistful.” —Alma Guillermoprieto, The New York Times Book Review

Mea Cuba
is the passionate but often hilarious political autobiography of one of the great Cuban writers of the century. Sharply opinionated and brutally honest, it explores the nature of the Cuban revolution and the lives of those it has involved or affected, from political leaders such as Fulgencio Batista, Che Guevara, and Fidel Castro to writers like Alejo Carpentier, Reinaldo Arenas, and Heberto Padilla.

Mea Cuba overflows with Cabrera Infante’s brilliant wit and ingenious wordplay. But it is also a deeply moving analysis of the tragedies—and political farces—of our time. Profound, incisive, enlightening, and entertaining, Mea Cuba is at once a revealing memoir and a fascinating exploration of life, politics, and literature in Cuba today.

Acerca del autor

Winner of the 1997 Cervantes Prize and widely considered one of the foremost Cuban writers of the twentieth century, Guillermo Cabrera Infante (1929–2005) was the author of five novels, four screenplays, and multiple collections of short stories. Born in the small town of Gibara, Cabrera Infante was initially a supporter of the Cuban Revolution and served under Castro as director of the National Board of Culture and sub-director of the newspaper Revolución (now Granma). After being detained in Cuba for four months in 1968, he spent the rest of his life in exile as a dissident. His most well-known work, Tres Tristes Tigres, labeled as counterrevolutionary by the Cuban government, has been compared to Joyce’s Ulysses in its ingenious and groundbreaking use of language.
