About this ebook

FROM THE BESTELLING AUTHOR OF THE LITTLE BOOK OF IKIGAI

In a world overflowing with abundance and information, the calm and clarity of stoicism has never been more necessary. In this new book, bestselling author Ken Mogi explores the ancient Greek philosophy as well as its resonance with other cultures around the world, not least his own Japanese perspective. The result is a new version of stoicism that is practical, global, future-proof and, above all, optimistic.

With his expertise as a neuroscientist, Mogi uncovers the cognitive foundations of the resilience that is so central to stoicism. Rooted in science, he finds in stoicism robust coping strategies for the challenges of modern life, and ways to balance self-discipline with enjoying life's pleasures.

But stoicism is also a mindset that uniquely equips us to handle the future, from global challenges such as the climate emergency to the rise and rise of AI. Thinking like a stoic, he argues, can offer us not just a path for personal growth and wisdom, but the key to the future of humanity.

It is a great book. It deepens on various aspects of stoicism for example our connection with the universe, and with other beings, or our limitations and insignificance as individuals, I like it because those are aspects of the stoicism that are not deeply evaluated in other books. Some topics like the stoic virtues, what we can control and what we cannot, dealing with adversity, seeing obstacles as the way, to name a few, are not included so I feel that the topic was incomplete. However, as the author always does with the books, it has traces of japanese culture, although not as much as Ikigai or the Way of Nagomi, and I feel that there were so many different characters that I felt the stories were kind of sparse. However, I recommend it if you like non-fiction books, neuroscience, and spirituality, especially neuroscience!
