About this ebook

‘With straightforward and practical wisdom, The Way Out presents a sophisticated yet simple approach to understanding and healing chronic pain.’ Dr Gabor Maté, bestselling author of The Myth of Normal

‘Quite possibly the most important pain book ever written. The Way Out will be the answer for millions who live in constant agony.’ Annie Grace, author of This Naked Mind

Chronic pain is a global epidemic.

28 million people in the UK alone struggle with back pain, headaches or some other pain that resists all treatment, often being told again and again that there is no cure.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Frustrated by the lack of effective treatment for his own debilitating pain, psychotherapist Alan Gordon developed Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), a mind-body protocol that eliminated his own chronic pain and has transformed the lives of thousands of his patients. In a ground-breaking study, PRT helped 98% of patients reduce their pain levels and 66% were completely cured.

Now, in his incredible and inspiring book, The Way Out, Gordon shows you how to:

  • Understand how the brain can unintentionally 'learn' chronic pain
  • Turn off pain signals that have become 'stuck'
  • Use revolutionary techniques to break the cycle of fear that causes chronic pain
  • Develop long-term strategies for living pain-free

Game-changing, practical and full of real-life stories from Gordon’s clinical practice, The Way Out will change the way you think about pain forever – and give you a way out of your own chronic pain.

‘All chronic pain patients owe it to themselves to read this book’ Andrew Weil, MD, New York Times bestselling author of Spontaneous Healing

‘Every clinician who treats chronic pain should read The Way Out’ Steven Richeimer, MD, Chief of Pain Medicine, USC Keck School of Medicine

‘The Way Out is quite simply the most effective treatment for chronic pain’ Howard Schubiner, MD, clinical professor at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, and founder and director of the Mind-Body Medicine Program, Ascension Providence Hospital

Tedious writing style, no unique insights and basically no direct instructions/exercises, beyond "somatic tracking", "trust the process", and "fake it til you make it". The "explanation" of pain, and well, everything, in this book seems either naive, or so dumbed down that it makes no sense. One example that regularly jumps out reading this book: if neurons that fire together wire together, then wouldn't focusing on the pain only entrench those negative sensations no matter what you believed about the pain's cause? Perhaps there is some nuance that explains this, but it isn't explored in the book. There is also a lack of robust evidence for pain reprocessing therapy, even in this book with so many other academic references. Of course there are plenty of anecdotes. I think it would have been prudent to delay the production of this book until enough evidence had been collected.

fixed 3 years of daily chronic back pain in under a week. I was sceptical of this type of stuff but had done every scan and stretch. give it a try if you're frustrated, cost me $30 and took about 2 hours to read, everything else I tried eclipses it in price and effort
