Sobre aquest audiollibre
Paris, January 1871. The city is starving under siege, and war has transformed ordinary life into a struggle for survival.
Morissot, a watchmaker, unexpectedly encounters his old fishing companion, Sauvage. Before the war, the two men spent peaceful Sundays together beside the river, often understanding one another without speaking. Longing to recover even a few hours of that vanished life, they obtain permission to pass through the French lines and return to their favorite fishing spot.
For a brief time, the war seems far away.
Then Prussian soldiers surround them.
Accused of spying, Morissot and Sauvage are offered a terrible bargain: reveal the French military password and live—or remain silent and face execution. Separated and questioned individually, each man must decide whether survival is worth betraying his country, his principles, and his friend.
Set during the Franco-Prussian War, Guy de Maupassant’s *Two Friends* is a powerful story of loyalty, quiet courage, and the senseless cruelty of war. With emotional restraint and devastating clarity, Maupassant reveals how extraordinary bravery can emerge from the most ordinary people.
Narrated by Brett Carter.
