About this audiobook

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
In December 1831 a twenty-two-year-old naturalist boarded a small survey brig at Devonport with a copy of Lyell's geology and a great deal of curiosity. He spent the next five years at sea, and what he saw changed the way everyone after him would think about the living world.

The Voyage of the Beagle is Darwin's own account of that journey. It is not a theory book — On the Origin of Species would not appear for another twenty-three years. It is a travel diary written by an extremely good observer: the fossils of Patagonia, the giant tortoises of the Galápagos, the geology of the Andes, the customs of Tierra del Fuego, the coral atolls of the Pacific, and the slow accumulation of questions that did not yet have answers.

Listeners who come to this expecting a dry scientific report are usually surprised. Darwin is curious, funny, frequently seasick, and openly astonished by what he finds. The famous passages — the foxes of the Falklands, the earthquake at Concepción, the birds of the Galápagos that he did not yet understand were important — are best heard in his own words, in the order he encountered them.

This edition reads the complete text, including the preface and the full account of all the countries visited.

Narrated in a single clear voice at a steady pace, suitable for long listening sessions.
