If you would've asked me a few months ago I would've vividly recommended the app and given it 5 stars because it has a great selection and a lovely mix of Swedish and English literature. However, there have been updates lately and instead of solving the issue that you cannot see and skip chapters in the books (available in other apps), it just gave it a slightly more modern look and blocked half the books because I'm not in the correct geographical area. It also requires quite a bit of battery power, which is not always practical when traveling. However, the biggest issue is the recent geographical limitations. I specifically chose Storytel.se because of its choice in both Swedish and English literature and now it's becoming more limited! I acquired their e-reader a few months ago and really enjoy it, but it can be used only with their subscription and I am starting to regret my purchase now that I have less choice in my books. There should be some regulation that a subscription to the Swedish Storytel gives rights to the Swedish books. How else can Swedes abroad get access to their literature? I'm sorry Storytel, I'm a real fan but you need to do something about this.

Storytel finally has collections, so one can organize as many or as few of one's books as one wants, and I can give five stars without reservation. The other downsides are not due to the app itself but partly to backend people who upload the books and partly to end users who listen/read. Backend people should see to that each audiobook has a table of contents, but they don't always. End users could review the books they read, but often only use icons to give each book a 2-5 keyword description.

I've been a long time user. The app has a broad selection of books and audiobooks. Excellent narrators, for the most part. BUT: The app, supposedly focused on literature, promotes AI. AI generated stories. What's the point of it? I don't want AI in my literature app. Is that what I'm paying for? I want human written books. Human voices. This is very disappointing and I hope they will reconsider - this is NOT the way, Storytel! At least give us an option to opt out of any AI used in the app!
