About this app

How can computers learn to recognize birds from sounds? The BirdNET research project uses artificial intelligence and neural networks to train computers to identify more than 3,000 of the most common species worldwide. You can record a file using the microphone of your Android device and see if BirdNET correctly identifies the probable bird species present in your recording. Get to know the birds around you and help us to collect observations by submitting your recordings.

BirdNET is a joint project of the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and Chemnitz University of Technology.

It has been working great so far! I don't get to witness much variety of birds in my region but the rare ones it did manage to identify correctly. It will most likely identify your local birds too, so it is totally worth the try.

This is app is so cool! it identifies bird calls very easily. it can identify birds by region. the best thing about this happens is that they ask you to help, so you can learn at the same time.

It worked great last year but now it couldn't even recognise a chickens voice. The chicken was right next to the phone and it said it was an owl. That's awful detection. Plus the background noise is awful
