About this app

Whether you're a speech-language pathologist (SLP), an SLP student, a parent of a child with speech delays, or someone working on an American English accent, Speech Tutor shows you exactly how each sound is made.

Speech Tutor's animations make the parts of the face that hide the tongue transparent, so you can see inside the mouth while each sound is produced. Every sound has a side view and a front view at three speeds (slow, medium and fast), and you can pause at any point. There are 132 animations in all.

The "Basics" tutorial gives anyone who isn't an SLP a solid starting point. Each sound also has a plain description of how it's made, tips from licensed speech-language pathologists, and the ages by which it's usually acquired and mastered. A palate diagram shows where the tongue should touch.

You can record yourself practicing a sound and play it back before and after a correct model. Practice cards, games and activities keep sessions varied. The sound animations, lessons and practice cards are stored on your device, so they work without an internet connection.

Sounds covered: P, B, T, D, K, G, N, M, NG, F, V, S, Z, SH, CH, J, L, R (retroflex and bunched), TH (voiced and voiceless), and the vowels /i/, /u/, /a/ and /æ/.

SUBSCRIPTION
Speech Tutor is free to download. Full access is a weekly subscription, Speech Tutor Weekly Access, at $9.99 per week in the U.S. (prices vary by country). There is no free trial. Payment is charged to your Google Play account when you confirm the purchase, and the subscription renews automatically every week until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in Google Play > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions; cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access until the end of the week you've paid for.
