I used to love dropbox, but they went into a very bad direction. I understand that they want to make money, and I would even pay if there were a good option for me. But the entry level is too much space for too much money. So to force me to buy, they restricted the number of devices I can connect. It's unacceptable. Also, I believe it's independent issue, but background upload does not work until I start the app. I guess background should run in background. All in all it's not good any more.

Files shared with me use up my quota as well, even though the files only need to be stored once on the server. You can only use three devices for free, a lot of ads are shown and the general user experience has gotten worse and worse over the last few years. Dropbox was great in 2013 but now it's just... something. Better rent a VPS and install Nextcloud. You pay less and have way more features.

Hi. If you don't have enough space in your account to add a shared folder, you can ask the owner to share a view-only link instead: https://help.dropbox.com/share/create-and-share-link. Other than that, we appreciate your feedback, and for any help needed, please contact our team on X at @DropboxSupport or Facebook at facebook.com/Dropbox. Thanks!

Sneaky Dropbox! You go to extra lengths to force me to the payed subscription. Since the last update, like magic, all my phone photos were loaded to Dropbox, overloading my box and asking to upgrade, obviously. If your prices would have been more accessible, I would have done it, but now, I'm starting to look for other options, cause I'm tired to fight all your dirty tricks.
