It looks like a plain gold ring. Then the fire finds it, and letters no one has seen for an age burn up out of the gold.

Fire-Letters is an animated digital watch face for anyone who has ever held their breath as a wizard dropped a ring into the hearth.

• It's alive. The ring sweeps over a dark map of Middle-earth, plain and gold. Then the writing on the inside of its band comes up in fire, letter by letter along the band, flares, and burns with a slow flicker - until it fades, and the ring is plain gold again. A 15-second loop with no seam.
• The fire is the ring's own light: the letters burn white-gold at their hearts and orange round their edges, and their glow spills across the gold.
• A large clock in a pen-drawn hand, where a title would sit on an old map, in 12 or 24 hours as your watch is set, over the date.

Everything you need at a glance:
• The day and date under the time
• Today's steps, your battery level and your heart rate - the battery turns red when it runs low
• An optional step goal ring around the edge, filling up as you walk

Make it yours: press and hold the watch face, tap Customize, and switch the step goal ring on - or back off.

In always-on mode the ring goes dark and only the clock stays lit, dimmed and gently shifting position to protect your screen.
